Full Description

In the southern road from Bicker to Hoffleet, one mile south of Bicker Church, a section through one of a number of mounds, or silt hills, was observed. 'The upper portion (4 ft) consisted of soil mixed with stones, fragments of brick, burnt earth with shells of helix, mytilis and cardium; this is certainly artificial. The lower portion appeared to be silt in situ. Other mounds disclosed fragments of bricks and pottery, with bones of ox, sheep and shells of edible mollusca. {1}{2}{3}{4}
