Full Description

Sutterton war memorial is located in the cemetery on Station Road. Dedicated in 1920, the memorial honours the fallen of the First World War and the Second World War. Standing at 8.5ft tall (3.5m), the memorial is a high white stone pedestal with a pyramidal top and polished red Aberdeen granite panels. {1} This memorial takes the form of a tall, white granite pillar, standing at the western end of the main path through the cemetery from Station Road. The pillar is raised on a chamfered, square base, surmounted by a square block foot, and is topped with a two-tiered pyramidal stone with square capital. The memorial was unveiled on 7 August 1920, and commemorates the 34 local servicemen who died in the First World War. Following the Second World War, a dedication and the names of the 12 local servicemen who died in that conflict were added to the memorial.
