Full Description

New Leake, Eastville, and Midville war memorial is situated in the churchyard of St Jude's Mission Church, standing almost exactly on the boundary between the parishes of New Leake and Eastville on Spilsby Road. Dedicated in 1921, the memorial honours the fallen of the First World War and the Second World War. The design is of a rough-hewn granite cross with a square base. {1} This memorial stands in a gravelled garden to the south of St Jude’s Mission Church. It takes the form of a simple yet poignant, rough-hewn Latin cross of granite with an incised cross decorating the front face. The cross stands on a two-stage square plinth, standing on a two-stepped square base. The memorial was unveiled on 30 October 1921, and commemorates the members of the communities of New Leake, Eastville and Midville who lost their lives in the First World War. The memorial has, unusually, not been adapted for Second World War commemoration and thus retains its original design intent.
