Full Description

Leverton war memorial is situated on Sheepsgate, to the north-east of the village. It consists of a 12ft (3.5m) high Portland stone obelisk supplied by Messrs Thomas Kent of Boston. The memorial honours those who died in the First World War and the Second World War. {1} This memorial takes the form of a simple yet elegant Portland stone obelisk in the Classical style. It is in an area enclosed by a hedge and clipped conifers, with a wrought iron gate to the front. It has a square, three-stepped base and a two-stage corniced plinth from which the obelisk rises. The memorial was unveiled on 21 November 1920. It commemorates 17 members of the local community who lost their lives in the First World War. Following the Second World War an additional inscription was added to the memorial recording two further names. The name of one soldier who died in Northern Ireland has also been added.
