Heckington war memorial is situated in the car park in front of the village green on the corner of Church Street and High Street. The memorial consists of a Cornish granite Celtic cross standing at almost twenty-five feet (eight metres) high. It is surrounded by bow-top metal fencing and commemorates those who died in the First World War and the Second World War. {1} A First World War memorial, unveiled on 1 October 1922, with further names added after the Second World War. It is located on the edge of the Village Green and comprises an elegant Cornish granite wheel-head cross embellished with carved knotwork and a central boss surmounting a tapered shaft. The memorial is sited within its original well-executed enclosure comprising paving surrounded by ornate bow-top metal fencing furnished with a gate at the front.
