Full Description
A socketed iron chisel of probable Anglo-Saxon date was recovered from the fill of a medieval pit, excavated in April 2015 during archaeological monitoring of new development on land off St Botolph's Crescent. The chisel had a slightly flared blade, and a socket formed from a rolled fitting that is typical of an Anglo-Saxon design that was largely obsolete by the medieval period. {1}{2}
