Full Description

The former footbridge at Brayford Wharf East was the subject of a heritage statement, produced in February 2013, prior to the structure's proposed removal. The structure was thought to be contemporary with the construction of the nearby Great Central Goods Depot, which opened in 1907 (see PRN 70121), and was constructed to provide a pedestrian crossing over the River Witham here. The bridge was built of riveted steel beams, and measured roughly 17m long, with inclined ramped sections at both ends and a flat central section, raised to allow small boats to pass beneath. The structure featured steel lattice balustrades, and used wooden planking for the floor and steps, though these had largely been removed at the time of survey. The structure has since been demolished. {1}
