Full Description

This outbuilding at Cliff House Farm was the subject of a programme of detailed building recording, conducted in September 2016, prior to its proposed conversion to residential use. The structure is a two-storey former cartshed with granary over, and is thought to date to the second half of the 19th century, and the expansion of the farm as part of the 'High Farming' movement. The building was constructed of red brick, laid in a 3-course English Garden Wall bond, and features a pitched pantile roof. The structure is open-fronted to the north at ground level, with bull-nosed bricks used for the columns that separate the 3 cart bays. Access to the first floor granary space was granted by a set of exterior brick and stone steps, attached to the western gable. A number of bullseye endplates have been used around the first floor level of the structure, one of which is a more decorated example. {1}{2}
