Full Description

A large, shallow, pit-like feature was recorded in this location in October 2015, during trial trenching on land off Lincoln Road. The feature was thought to represent the remains of a probable former pond or watering hole. Analysis of an environmental sample taken from the fill of the feature recovered two small fragments of worked flint, suggesting a late prehistoric date for the activity here. Plant remains identified within the sample included charred grass-type rhizomes and monocot stems, along with several hazelnut fragments, possibly indicative of gathered wild produce often associated with prehistoric sites. {1}{2}
