Full Description

A raised mound of earth, thought to represent the remains of a probable Second World War gun emplacement, was identified in this area in January 1997, during trial trenching on land at Glebe Paddock. It was unclear whether the ground had been raised as part of the construction of the emplacement, or whether it had been sited on a pre-existing platform. {1}{2} Brick and concrete foundation slabs of a demolished structure were recorded in October 2000, during the levelling of the mound prior to new development on the site. Second World War gas masks have reportedly been unearthed within this field in the past, strengthening the argument that the remains represented a former civil defense structure of some kind. {3}{4}
