Full Description

A number of early post-medieval features were recorded in this location in November 2006, during trial trenching on land at Witham Road. The features comprised the remains of a ditch and several pits, from which a quantity of predominantly locally produced 16th to 17th century Kirkstead pottery was recovered. A large proportion of these pottery sherds showed significant flaws and imperfections, suggesting they represented wasters and seconds from the local pottery production, and possibly indicating the presence of a pottery kiln in the immediate vicinity. {1}{2}
