Full Description

The former outbuilding at 43 Main Street was included in a programme of historic building recording, conducted in June 2016, prior to its proposed demolition. The building is thought to date to the 18th century, and likely functioned as a former store room and possible animal shelter. The southern elevation was constructed of roughly coursed limestone rubble, to match the adjacent house (see PRN 56735), with all of the other elevations being built of a variety of red brick. The building featured a pitched roof of red clay pantiles. The structure had been subjected to a variety of alterations and extensions throughout its life, including the addition of an eastern lean-to that appeared to be contemporary with the raising of the adjacent house to two storeys in the late 19th century. The building was demolished as soon as the recording work was completed. {1}
