Full Description

Gedney Railway Station was opened in October 1862, and was closed to all traffic in 1965. The station was initially proposed in 1853 as part of the Norwich and Spalding Railway, but was not actually constructed until 1862, after the Great Northern Railway took control of the route. The station notably formed part of the larger Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway line between Spalding and King's Lynn, after its formation in 1893. This part of the route was closed for passengers in March 1959, and closed to goods at this particular station in February 1964, and to all goods traffic on the line in April 1965, after which most of the station structures appear to have been demolished. Structures at the station included a signal box, goods shed and weigh machine. The former station house is still extant, being converted to a private residence in 2021 (see MLI116341). {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}
