Full Description

A small residual assemblage of medieval pottery and roof tile was recovered from a number of late post-medieval deposits, excavated in this location in August 2014, during archaeological monitoring of residential development. The pottery included sherds of Lincolnshire Early Medieval Shelly ware and 12th to 14th century Lincoln Glazed wares. A redeposited whetstone made of probable Norwegian schist was also recovered. The stone was thought to be of medieval or possibly late Saxon date, and was quite highly polished, suggesting it had seen considerable use before its deposition. {1}{2}
