Full Description

The remains of several pits, ditches and post holes were recorded in this location in August 2014, during the archaeological monitoring of residential development. No dateable material was recovered from any of the features, which remain undated, although several of the pits were cut by late post-medieval activity, suggesting they pre-dated this period. A small residual assemblage of medieval pottery, tile and a whetstone was also recovered from the late post-medieval features, attesting to probable earlier activity in this area (see PRN 71216). A small quantity of animal bone was recovered from the undated features. Whilst small and fragmentary, the assemblage could be seen to largely comprise the remains of sheep, with some cattle bones also present. Evidence of butchery marks could be seen on two of the bone fragments. {1}{2}
