Full Description

The buildings at 17 Church Lane were the subject of a programme of historic building recording, conducted in May 2015, during their demolition and redevelopment of the site. The structures comprised a two-storey former house and an attached range of single and two-storey outbuildings. Demolition of the structures had already commenced by the time of the survey, with the outbuildings having been largely removed. The buildings date to the mid 19th century, being constructed after the enclosure of this part of Saxilby in 1827. The structures formed a compact domestic group in what would then have been a relatively isolated position. Later mapping shows the house sitting at the northern end of a small paddock or yard. The structures were built of red brick, laid in English Garden Wall bond for the house and largely Stretcher bond for the outbuildings, and featured pitched pantile roofs. {1}{2}
