Full Description

A military training camp was established in Sudbrooke Park during the Second World War. Mid 20th century mapping of the park shows numerous camp buildings and tracks, located to the west of the former Sudbrooke Holme House. Although all of the structures have since been demolished, foundations of many still remain, along with earthworks marking the former position of others. The camp appears to have comprised a large number of former wooden huts, largely now represented by the remains of the concrete aprons upon which they stood, and several former nissen huts, now largely visible as foundation earthworks. {1} Extensive magnetic anomalies, clearly relating to the use of the site during the Second World War, were recorded in February 2016, during magnetometry survey of selected parts of Sudbrooke Park. The anomalies were thought to represent the locations of former Nissen huts and associated camp services. {2}
