Full Description

Freiston war memorial is located at the north-western corner of St James' churchyard. The memorial commemorates the fallen of the First World War and the Second World War. Dedicated in 1921, the memorial is a ten and a half feet (three metres) high, grey Cumberland granite Iona cross. It was supplied by Messrs Tomas Kent of Boston. {1} Freiston War Memorial was unveiled in 1921. The war memorial is located in the churchyard of the Church of St James (PRN12774) and close to the 14th century churchyard cross shaft (PRN12775). It stands facing the road. It is built of grey Cumberland granite in the form of a Celtic cross, standing on a concrete platform, with a square, three-stepped base, and a tapered square plinth with double rolled top. The memorial is protected from the road by hooped metal railings with spear and fleur de lys railing heads to the vertical bars and the dog rails.
