Full Description

Roma Cottage was the subject of a programme of historic building recording, conducted in August 2013, to inform proposed renovations and extensions. The building originates from the early 18th century, when it was built as a single-storey structure. It is of red brick, now largely obscured by a 20th century cement render, and features a relatively modern roof of red clay pantiles. Considerable alterations and extensions were made throughout its life, notably in the 19th century when the structure was raised to two-storeys, and in the 20th century, when large, single-storey timber extensions were added. Little of the original fixtures, fitting and joinery can now be seen inside. The building is thought to have adjoined a former malt house to the west (see PRN 49258), which may suggest that it originally had some possible industrial use. {1}
