Full Description

The remains of three ditches were recorded in this location in September 2015, during trial trenching on land south of Banovallum Gardens, Horncastle. All of the ditches were aligned on a north-north-east to south-south-west axis; two of the ditches had v-shaped profiles, whilst the third had a u-shaped profile. No finds were recovered from any of the ditches, which remain undated, although all of the features were characteristically very different from the remains of modern field boundaries and drains that were also identified in this area. It was thought possible that the ditches may relate to other enclosure ditches and field boundaries of late prehistoric and Romano-British date, identified during archaeological monitoring of nearby developments, although this could not be confirmed. {1}{2}
