Full Description

Butterwick war memorial commemorates those who died in the First World War. It is a polished red Aberdeen granite obelisk with golden lettering on the west and south sides. Standing before St Andrew's Church it was unveiled in 1920. {1} A First World War memorial obelisk in St Andrew's churchyard, that was unveiled in 1920. It is an elegant, polished, red Aberdeen granite obelisk, in the Classical style, standing within a square, kerbed enclosure. It has a square stone base, above which there is a three-stage pedestal in the same granite as the obelisk. It commemorates nineteen members of the local community who lost their lives in the First World War.
