Full Description

Barkston war memorial is located on Church Street, in front of the churchyard of the Church of St Nicholas. It was erected to remember those who died in the First World War. Further names were added after the Second World War. The site is elevated and the memorial's cross is based on a medieval wayside cross or calvary, sculptured from Clipsham stone. The base consists of five steps of a square plan and supports an octagonal shaft which carries a battlemented capital supporting a penthouse or canopy. A crucifix is carved on the western face whilst a wreath is carved on the eastern side. {1}
