Description

A watching brief was carried out during groundworks associated with a nursing home development. A sequence of natural layers, subsoil and topsoil was uncovered and two pits were identified, one of which contained Iron Age pottery, animal bone and a Saxon spindle whorl which is probably intrusive. Traces of medieval ridge and furrow were also identified. No evidence of the Car Dyke or its flanking bank was encountered. {1}{2}
