Description

An archaeological evaluation (trial trenching) was undertaken on land at Wharf Street / Albert Street, Stamford in advance of a new housing development. The work was undertaken to ascertain whether any archaeological deposits were present; to characterise their nature, extent and date range and to assess their significance. Five 20m long by 1.6m wide trial trenches were excavated unders archaeological supervision until archaeological depoits, undisturbed strata or 1.2m (whichever was the higher) were encountered. No evidence for archaeology or environmental material was recovered during the auger survey {1} {2}
