Description

A systemmatic magnetometry survey (using a Geoscan FM 36 Fluxgate Gradiometer) was conducted on land at Bicker in advance of a proposed wind turbine development access road. The aims of the survey was to gather sufficient information to establish the location and extent of any archaeological features within the development area and to characterise the archaeology located. Clear archaeological activity was found to concentrate in the southwestern end of the survey area. Within this area were six areas with markedly high readings, probably associated with areas of increased magnetic activity such as hearths or salterns. Two other areas of increased magnetic activity were also noted, but their form made interpretation difficult {1}
