Description
Fieldwalking was undertaken on an area of land circa 180m by circa 50m in order to assess the potential for archaeological remains prior to proposed extension of the quarry. The whole field was examined in 20m squares. Conditions for fieldwalking were not ideal; although the surface was frosted and beginning to break down, it had not been harrowed and was wet and deeply furrowed. An area in the north-east corner of the survey area was regridded and examined in 2m squares after producing a concentration of material - see LI3838. The southern margin of the quarry, a strip circa 2m in width, was not cultivated and therefore not surveyed.{1}
