Description

Trial trenching was carried out as part of a programme of evaluation on circa 21.87ha of land. Six trenches were placed to investigate blank areas and anomalies detected by prior geophysical survey. Trenches 1 and 4 measured 10m by 10m, Trench 2 measured 13.8m by 1.5m, Trench 5 measured 28m by 1.5m, and Trench 6 measured 20m by 1.5m. No dimensions were given for Trench 3. Trenches 1, 3 and 6 contained no archaeological features or finds. The strong responses noted by geophysical survey were due to iron salts.{1}
