Description
Trial trenching was carried out prior to construction of a six-storey block of flats in order to: - investigate the westward movement of Brayford Pool between the tenth and sixteenth centuries, establish the position of the medieval waterfront, and ascertain the depth of surviving remains. Three trenches were excavated, along with three geotechnical boreholes. Trench 1 measured circa 2m by circa 4m, Trench 2 measured circa 4m by circa 3m, and Trench 3 measured circa 7m by circa 3.2m. An extension measuring circa 8m by circa 800mmwas added to Trench 3 and a sondage was excavated at the eastern end of the trench.{1}
