Description

An excavation was undertaken prior to proposed residential development, as part of a programme of evaluation on this site. Objectives included the excavation, examination and recording of remains likely to be destroyed by the development scheme. Topsoil was removed in a strip circa 155m in length and circa 2m in width along the line of the triple-ditch system between Evaluation Trench 1 to the south and the site boundary to the north. Area 1 adjoined Evaluation Trench 1 to the north. The remainder of the stripped area was inspected and three further areas designated for excavation: Area 2 (circa 20m by 20m) and Areas 3 and 4 (contiguous to Area 2 to the north-east and south-west).{1}
