Description

A magnetometry survey was carried out on land to the south of the A52, Wrangle, to inform the proposed construction of a new residential development. An additional survey of augering was also undertaken in the northwest corner of the site, following the discovery of several potential areas of burning. The survey also revealed a series of possible ditch-like features across the site. {1} Subsequent trial trenching confirmed the survey's findings of drainage ditches across the site. These truncated a post-Saxon alluvial deposit and were tentatively dated to the post-Medieval period. An archaeological excavation conducted in the northwest corner of the site revealed the concentration of anomalies there to be a Late Saxon and Saxo-Norman field system and shellfish processing site.
