An evaluation, in the form of trial trenching, was undertaken on 8.23ha of land, to assess the presence/absence, extent and location of archaeological remains, and to enable an assessment of their potential significance and the impact of development to be made, in advance of development. Six trenches were excavated:- Trench 1 measured 23.2m by 2.2m; Trench 2 measured 29.1m by 2.2m; Trench 3 measured 28.3m by 2.2m; Trench 4 measured 28.8m by 2.2m; Trench 5 measured 24.1m by 2.2m; and Trench 6 measured 40.2m by 2.2m. Trenches were positioned to target cropmark features observed on aerial photographs.{1}
