Description

An evaluation, in the form of trial trenching, was carried out prior to proposed construction of five residential dwellings (on the southern half of the site) and an associated access road. The area to the north of the access road was not investigated, as it had been determined that this would remain a green area. A total of five trenches, each measuring 10m in length, were placed in the southern half of the site, positioned to account for the possibility that some archaeological remains may not have been identified in the prior geophysical survey. Trenches 1, 2 and 3 were placed within the building plots, while Trenches 4 and 5 were placed in the area potentially to be disturbed by the access road.{1} Please note that all undated and/or unexcavated features have been added to the medieval settlement record for Orby (PRN 43701).
