A fluxgate gradiometer survey was conducted to inform the proposed creation of a new green burial area on land adjacent to St Mary's Church, Church Lane, Wainfleet St Mary. Most of the recorded magnetic anomalies were thought to relate to 20th century agricultural → and land drains, although a small area in the south-eastern corner of the site exhibited some potential as an area of burning or high temperature activity. {1}{2} Subsequent trial trenching in this area resolved the magnetic anomaly in the south-eastern corner as a natural hollow, and no features of archaeological significance were encountered (see ELI14840).
