Description

A geophysical survey was conducted on land at Belton Park, Belton, to inform a river improvement scheme. Possible rectilinear features including a ridge and furrow headland, a group of small rectangular enclosures and a possible animal pen were encountered to the east of the river, and field divisions or terracing associated with the deserted Medieval village of Towthorpe were identified either side of the river. A circular feature, possibly a roundhouse or barrow, was detected approximately 11m to the north of the project area. The presence of two possible palaeochannels was also noted. {1}
