Description

A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was conducted during groundworks for the construction of two new dwellings on land to the northwest of High Street, Bassingham. The footing trenches were mostly deemed too unstable to access, so the identification of features was limited to observations from ground level. Undated features including ditches, post holes, pits and a possible beam slot were encountered. Two ditches of Roman date were also identified within trenches cut for soakaways. Roman pottery including Nene Valley mortarium ware was also recovered from the topsoil during the investigation. {1}{2}
