Description
Two trial trenches were excavated on land at Woodbine Cottage, Hall Lane, Stickney, to inform the proposed construction of three new dwellings. Evidence of Medieval food smoking was found, in the form of a pit containing a blackened fragment of roller-stamped tile from a fish smoker of 13th to 15th century date, as well as quantities of oak charcoal and deteriorated wood bark recovered from an environmental sample. A series of Medieval pits and ditches were also encountered, one of which truncated an earlier beam slot. {1}{2}
