Description
A trial trench was excavated on land at Bargate Lane, Horncastle, to inform the proposed construction of a new dwelling. The remains of a substantial standstone wall foundation, likely for a timber superstructure, was encountered. To the south of the wall were the remains of a white mortar surface and a section of light grey and pink opus signinum floor. This structure had been truncated by a later robber trench and was sealed by a dark occupation layer of probable late 2nd century AD date. {1}{2}
