Description

Seven trial trenches were excavated on land off Harding's Lane, Partney, to inform the proposed construction of a residential development. The trenching revealed a number of post-Medieval features relating to the former rectory garden to the north of the site, including a possible 'pineapple pit', popular in Victorian gardens for growing pineapples in English conditions. Residual finds recovered including a broken Mesolithic flint blade and 13th-15th century Toynton Ware pottery. {1}{2} No evidence was found of the north northeast to south southwest aligned ditches and ridge and furrow identified on prior geophysical survey (see ELI14253).
