Description

A geophysical gradiometer survey (magnetometry) was undertaken at Land at Brocklesby Park in May of 2023 as part of a PhD project researching the archaeological potential of the site including Newhouse Castle. The survey recorded an earthwork perimeter interpreted as a putative former castle, evidence for burning or ceramic debris, a demolition spread possibly associated with Newsham Abbey, several ditch segments, possible pits, and ridge and furrow plough remains. {1} The HER is aware of excavations by the Castle Studies Trust in June 2024, and is awaiting further information.
