Description
A historic building survey was conducted on outbuildings at 8 St Mary's Hill, Stamford, prior to their alteration as part of a restaurant extension. The survey comprised a basic descriptive account and photograph record of all of the outbuildings in the survey area. The rear wing of 8 St Mary's Hill, which post-dates the rest of the building; run plaster ceiling cornices and large sash windows on the first floor point to a likely Georgian date. Further west is an outbuilding that originally was free-standing but has since been subsumed into the main building. Both are of limestone rubble, with pitched gabled roofs of slate. The upper storey of the former outbuilding is brick, suggesting it may originally have been single storey. Joining the two outbuildings is a probable former Victorian laundry, with a brick-built copper in the east wall. It appears to originally have been L-shape in plan, constructed of limestone rubble with large quoins at the northwest corner, later extended in brick to match the width of the rest of the building. {1}{2}
