Description

A historic building survey was undertaken at 32 Queen Street, Louth, prior to the demolition of some existing buildings, and the alteration and conversion of others, to create four new retail units on the site. The surveyed buildings include a 19th century former Wesleyan chapel converted into a garage, a number of single storey outbuildings, a pair of semi-detached houses, a brick built two storey building that may once have been a Sunday School, and two single storey modern buildings: a concrete and glass residential unit and a prefabricated clinic. The former chapel building was the only one to be surveyed internally; its conversion for use as a car repair garage has resulted in the removal of all original fixtures and fittings, to create a large open room with a poured concrete floor, with a filled-in inspection pit at the south end, and a series of offices with gallery above at the north end. A timber built outshut extension with corrugated metal roof to the south encloses a former yard. {1}{2}
