Description

A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was conducted during groundworks for a residential development on land adjacent to Rose Cottage Garden, 10 Orby Road, Burgh le Marsh. A single east-west aligned ditch, dated to the 9th-10th centuries, was identified at the south of the site. 2 sherds of Medieval pottery and 1 sherd of Roman grey ware were recovered from the fill of this ditch. Animal bones from cow, sheep/goat, and pig, as well as from unidentified large- and medium-sized mammals, were recovered from unstratified deposits nearby. Also recovered from unstratified deposits were another 5 sherds of medieval pottery, and 15 sherds of Roman pottery. {1}{2}
