Description

A site visit was conducted to investigate hedgerows along the route of a proposed new water pipeline between Bracebridge Heath and Dunston, prior to their partial removal. It was thought likely that most of the hedgerows date to the Parliamentary Enclosure of this area in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. One of the hedgerows lies along an historic boundary between Bracebridge Heath and Waddington parishes, however, and the boundary has probably existed since at least the late Saxon period. The hedgerow at Dunston is likely of more recent origin, probably being established when the adjacent railway line was built in 1882. {1}
