A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was conducted during the augering of pile locations for development on land to the rear of 16 Guildhall Street, Lincoln. The groundworks revealed a buried organic deposit, from which two sherds of 2nd century Roman samian ware pottery were recovered. The deposit would indicate that this part of Lincoln was marshy ground during the early Roman period. {1}{2}
