Full Description

Two sherds of 2nd century Roman pottery were recovered from this location in January 2015, during archaeological monitoring of groundworks for new development. The sherds were recovered from a buried organic deposit, thought to have been deposited in an environment of standing or slow moving water, suggesting this part of Lincoln was marshy ground during the early Roman period. Both of the sherds were rim pieces from two different samian ware vessels, thought to be a cup and dish. {1}{2}
