Description

A detailed magnetic gradiometer survey was conducted to inform a proposed extension to Holywell Quarry, Clipsham. A large number of magnetic anomalies of possible archaeological origin were identified and interpreted as the remains of possible pits and ditches. A large rectilinear anomaly in the south-western corner of the site may be indicative of a possible enclosure. {1} Subsequent trial trenching on the site resolved many of the magnetic anomalies as natural geological features or modern disturbance, including the suspected south-western enclosure (see ELI12240).
