Description
A scheme of archaeological monitoring and recording was conducted during the groundworks for internal and external alterations to St Peter's Church, at Church Lane, Scotter. The monitoring revealed the remains of an earlier rammed chalk floor surface within the nave. This surface overlaid an east to west orientated wall foundation for an earlier north wall to the nave, which likely dated to the 12th century. A large quantity of disarticulated human bone was also recovered from the extensive graveyard soil deposits outside the church, and from a buried soil layer exposed within the church. {1}{2}
