An archaeological watching brief was conducted during the groundworks phase of construction for a replacement dwelling at 1a Castle Gate, Castle Bytham. Two pits were recorded, with one containing several large fragments of iron slag. Although the fragments could not be dated any closer than the Roman or medieval periods, they indicated that iron working was occurring on or very near to the site. {1}{2}
