Description

Archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Field Archaeology Specialists in the Eastern Courtyard, Lincoln Castle, Lincoln between June and August 2011. Evidence for a 4th century building was revealed. The building's walls had been robbed in the late 10th century. Activity between the late 10th and 12th century was also revealed and there is evidence for a possible 12th century building on the site. Activity associated with the Georgian gaol and the construction of the Crown Wing was also excavated.
