Description

LEADENHAM HIGH STREET SK 95 SE ( west side) 4/5 The Old Hall 23.8.67 GV II* Small country house. c1600, c1700 and early C19. Dressed and coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings. Hipped pantile roof with central ridge and rear gable stacks. Raised quoins, moulded plinth and moulded ground and first floor lintel bands, plus moulded cornice with downpipe holders. 2 storey. 5-bay south, entrance front has a central doorway with bolection moulded surround topped by a large broken segment pediment bearing the Beresford coat of arms supported by putti. 6-panel part glazed door. Flanked on either side by 2 glazing bar sashes, and above 5- glazing bar sashes, these upper and lower windows are linked by plain raised panels. The west front has 5 narrower bays, with 5 glazing bar sashes to each floor Jinked by plain raised panels. The east front has 4 bays, with 4 glazing bar sashes to each floor linked by plain raised panels. Except for the third bay which now contains an early C19 doorway with 4-panel door and overlight surrounded by an ashlar pilaster porch with entablature hood. All the windows have moulded and raised ashlar surrounds. The early C17 north front has 2 gables cross-wings, and various cross mullion windows. INTERIOR: close string newel staircase with urn finials, bolection moulded panelling to ground floor rooms with broken pediments over doors. First floor has 2 stone architrave chimney surrounds, and oak panelling in one bedroom. Listing NGR: SK9518452501
